First introduced in 1971, the Aria was created to replace the well-established but outdated Piccolina. The car featured an innovative hatchback chassis with a large rear door instead of a trunk lid and a modern transmission layout, where the front-mounted transverse engine drove the front wheels through an end-mounted gearbox.

With a wide range of engines and trims, from the base 1.0L Standard to the sporty 1.5L Corse with twin camshafts, the Aria quickly captured the supermini market. While less known today, it has firmly secured its place in automotive history as a benchmark for modern superminis and a pioneer of the automotive industry, much like its predecessor.
