Autozam is a sub-brand of Mazda for their economy cars and Kei cars, this is one of their Kei cars, Suzuki designed the car and provided the drivetrain for it, Mazda just took over the design. This car was meant to compete with the Suzuki Cappuccino and Honda Beat. These three cars were considered ABC Kei cars, the AZ-1 was the last of the three and production lasted two years due to the stock market crash in Japan, Mazda no longer saw the point in continuing production so this was the shortest run of the three and was rare.
