Description
The Porsche 908/3 was designed specifically for the Nürburgring Nordschleife and Targa Florio circuits, where the heavier 917K was less suited. With a curb weight of around 660 kg (1,450 lb), including the driver, and approximately 350 hp (250 kW) from the flat-eight engine, the power-to-weight ratio was approximately 540 hp/tonne. The 908/3 achieved great success, winning both the Targa Florio and the 1000 km (620 mi) of the Nürburgring, although its legacy has been somewhat overshadowed by the 917K's famous victory at Le Mans in 1971. Only around ten examples were built, making it one of the rarest Porsche prototypes.
