Ibishu Optima and Tenghui Liya!

In 1990, facing urgent demand to update its Pessima model, Ibishu developed a transitional product—the Optima—based on a redesign of the Pessima. Initially produced and sold in parts of Southeast and East Asia, the Optima was ultimately discontinued in 1994 due to poor sales and the enduring popularity of the classic Pessima.
In 1993, China's South Tenghui Industry Company acquired Ibishu's local assembly plants, the Optima production line, and related technologies. This enabled Tenghui to assemble its first compact family car, the Liya, based on the Optima. Thanks to its affordable price and rugged reliability, the Liya became popular among low- to middle-income households in China. Production continued until 2001, when the Tenghui Industry Company went bankrupt.
