Description

The Skeleton Coast is a remote stretch of coast in south-western Africa where the Namib desert meets the Atlantic ocean. Its name derives from the many skeletal remains of marine animals and the wrecks of countless ships that ran aground on its hundreds kilometres of shoreline.
Despite its eerie nature as one of the harshest environments on earth, the skeleton coast is home to a diverse fauna, including seals, penguins, desert adapted elephants and unique plants. This makes it a worthwhile destination for adventurers, nature enthusiasts and offroaders.
This map was designed with the main focus on exploration, highway driving, transportation/trucking and offroading as well as creating a semi realistic environment. This is the reason there are no racetracks, big jumps, or derby arenas on this map.

Features
- 8x8km basemap size.
- 70km long highway through the desert that leads outside the basemap boundaries.
- Several towns and settlements.
- Desert, sand dunes, mountains, bushland, and beaches with many miles of unpaved roads and trails.
- Dozens of custom buildings and objects specifically made for this map.
- Custom set of skins, license plates and vehicle configs.
- Extensive facilities for transportation and roleplaying including shops, industries, mining, farms, logistics and tourism.
- Locations accessible only on foot, such as building interiors, mineshafts and caves.
- An island off the coast reachable only by boat.
- Treasurehunt Minigame: 22 toilets placed across the map to find.
Map Extension/Highway
Outside of the base map there is a large, drivable map background (60x15km), adding an area of 900km². There is a highway going through this terrain which connects to a small town. The distance between the 2 main towns is over 70km, making this one of the longest point A to point B trips in BeamNG.
Lore and Background
In the early 20th century, Skeleton Coast became a hotspot for mining after diamonds were discovered. This led to development by European colonists. Today, the area remains a mining hotspot with a shift towards tourism. The map is a mashup of several real places in Namibia, South Africa and Angola, including references to Lüderitz, Swakopmund, and Walvisbay.
Known Bugs and Issues
- Airport landing strip in Otjovasando has wrong ground properties (dirt instead of asphalt).
- "Shivering" ground textures when far from the basemap.
- Some textures on top of objects in the map extension.
- Small vanilla objects (benches, postboxes, signs) may have weird or missing collision.
- Map view may appear off-center due to the non-square shape of the map.
System Requirements
This is a performance heavy map due to its size. It is recommended to meet the full recommended requirements for BeamNG to maintain decent fps.

Wrong side of roads. Namibia has left side traffic, not right side
