BeamNG.Drive 0.37: What's new in the big update
Good news for all who do not imagine their life without BeamNG.Drive - new update 0.37! The developers have invested a lot of effort to improve many features and fix bugs. The update has turned out to be quite big, so let’s go first.
Change user folder location
Let’s start with important changes. The default user folder has changed. The current address is now appdata/local/BeamNG/BeamNG.drive/current/ (it used to be appdata/local/BeamNG.drive/0.36/).
The developers decided to take this step in order to reduce the problems with dependencies.
An interface that is more user-friendly

The development team is also constantly working on improving the user interface. They recognize that it has some flaws and try to make it better with each patch.
What has changed in the new interface:

Improved search and filtering, advanced sorting and grouping options.

At the moment, a reworked selector is not implemented in all parts of the game - it is missing in «Garage», in the check-in mode on time, in bus routes and when switching to choosing a map.
Improving tools for creativity
Mods are the unmistakable part of BeamNG, which is why players love this game so much and why they can play it for years. Therefore, for content creators and simplification of the modding process in version 0.37 many necessary improvements have been introduced.
All map resources are now centralized in /assets. According to the development team, such optimization will have a positive effect on the overall organization and make the game size smaller, so managing all resources will be more convenient.
For map makers, the good news is that the editor of the world has introduced a set of modular tools that make it easy to create procedural content.
The creators of car modifications are also not forgotten. All cars, trailers and parts have been greatly optimized by cleaning the DeformationTriggerRatio.
Some new features:
- Improved playback function for smoother and better scene playback.
- Optimized camera path editor, simplified control and setting of camera movements.
- The list of particle emitters has been updated to improve the accuracy and quality of visual effects.
The list may not be as rich as its moders would like it to be, but the process of modernization is gradual and since developers work simultaneously on many aspects of the game, improvements in each area accordingly occur gradually. With the new update, perhaps the makers of mods will be surprised by the large number of new possibilities.
New limousine added

We can not miss the addition of a new vehicle - an elite limo Gavril Grand Marshal.
The car looks very luxurious. Classic body style, there are 5 configuration options (Custom, Demo Derby version, Base Fleet, V8 Lux, Presidential).
The interior of this vehicle will pleasantly surprise even the most whimsical - realistic decoration, own bar, TV, chic lighting - in general, everything as a real limo!
But that’s not all, also available customization with the following details:
- Antenna-boomerang;
- Signal horns;
- Flags;
- Tinted glass;
- Vinyl roof.
In update 0.37 other machines were affected besides the limo:
- Grand Marshall - improved Jbeam (more realistic behavior of the body), but a full refesh is not yet.
- Ibishu Miramar - updated engine models (previously there was no update at reflow in 0.36).
- ETK I-Series - new materials from the bottom of the body and seriously updated geometry of the suspension.
- Wentward - got a completely new interior with PBR materials.
- Shut Vivace (Shut Vivas in the movie) - updated LOD-textures.
- SBR4 - completely redesigned headlamp.
All old cars have been converted to PBR materials (only the individual headlights remain, which are finished later).
Now all official cars with disc brakes have the effect of heating up the discs.
When strongly heated, the brake elements start to light up, and this is especially impressive in the dark or in low lighting.
Props and objects

There are many new objects in the patch that you can interact with and have fun with!
Remasters
In 0.37 the developers completely reworked several classic objects:
Big spinner - got a new design, detailed model with many details and 17 configurations (options by size, number of blades, with boxes, flags, walls and even the trailer of death).
Big roller - now runs on a six-cylinder engine from Gavril T-Series, has mechanical control, can adjust the height by means of hydraulics and used as a press. There are two configurations: speed and power.
Hamster wheel - completely reworked, runs from the electric motor through the cargo wheel, accelerates the drum to 200 km/ h and has additional functions (for example, the activation of the space keys).
Big gun - now made in the style of steampunk, became larger and more convenient to use, with correctly leveled trampoline.
Metal springboard - visually improved, looks more realistic.
New props
In addition to the remaster, there are completely new objects:
Pressure Ball (ball under pressure) - three design options (plain, hamster, boy), possibility of gas selection and fine adjustment (size, weight, pressure, color). Two of the standard options are lighter than air, so the balloon flies off into the sky immediately after the spav. Inside you can put cars.
Trampoline - six standard configurations, detailed textures and physics of springs, possibility of fine tuning.
The bin is just a decorative object, without additional functions.
Spikes - several types: classic folding, remotely controlled «stop-sticks» in American style and unique version «Edger» with automatic turning.
Freeroam Crawl

Especially interesting innovation is the addition of a new system Freeroam Crawl. Thanks to it, you can now start off-road races from Freeroam and do not need to load missions. So far it is only in development mode, but already looks interesting.
Start incredibly simple, just bring the car to the beginning of the path and press the corresponding button on the screen.
It is also noteworthy that 26 routes have been added in Johnson Valley and another 7 in Utah. Some routes taken are interlinked and represent a chain system.
There are several new missions:
- The Very Important Parking
- 3 new missions on Gridmap v2;
- Update missions The Villa VIP and Platform Jump.
Improved optimization
A lot of players play BeamNG on relatively weak PCs and may encounter bulges and braking. In this update, the game has become less memory consuming and greatly improved optimization. So, if in old versions you could see images slowing down, then when updated to 0.37 they can become smaller or disappear altogether.
Improved performance when working with the Vulcan, and also due to a good optimization of texture now some maps like Johnson Valley, West Coast are consuming much less memory.
