Pedestrians fills BeamNG's roads with people. Those close to you are real soft bodies, built like tiny vehicles (47 nodes, 312 beams), with a small Lua brain that keeps them balanced and walking. Hit one and the muscles go slack: a real ragdoll, and real dents in your car.
Features
- Large Crowds: 75 extra walkers by default (slider up to 500) on sidewalks, in addition to 16 soft-body pedestrians.
- Realistic Movement: Full walk cycle with bending knees, swinging arms, and body bobbing.
- Optimization: Three levels of detail (LOD) for faces and fingers; physics only activate for soft-body pedestrians and upon impact.
- Smart Spawning: People walk every suitable paved road and gather in open squares, church forecourts, and parks.
- Impact Physics: Crowd people transition to soft bodies a quarter of a second before impact to ensure realistic crashes.
- Enhanced Visuals: New body proportions, human-sized heads with detailed facial features, and soft hairlines.
- Improved Crash Behavior: Knocked-down bodies brake on the road, limbs go limp instantly, and bodies are never placed inside each other.
- Customization: Voices on/off switch and a dedicated Pedestrians tab in the pause menu.
Settings
Access the Pause menu › Pedestrians tab to adjust:
- Pedestrians on/off and number of soft-body pedestrians (0-48).
- Far crowd on/off, crowd size (0-500), and gathering places.
- Hit pool settings and live counts of hits.
- Blood, dismemberment, tear-off threshold (km/h), and voices.
Performance
Only soft-body pedestrians and hit targets run physics. If frame rates drop, lower the crowd size first, then the number of soft-body pedestrians.
Installation Instructions
Requires BeamNG.drive 0.40.
1. Put pedestrians.zip in your mods folder. No need to unzip it.
2. Load any map with a road network. Pedestrians appear after a few seconds.
