Description
Towing Triangle: Rigid Tow Hitches
Rigid tow hitches for recovering disabled vehicles. If a car can’t move under its own power, this mod lets you tow it on a solid bar instead of a stretchy rope. Three hitch types come as one mod, so you pick the one that suits the job.
Hitch types
- A-Type: Classic rigid A-frame. Three rear eyes: the center eye takes a single tow loop, the side eyes take vehicles with two.
- V-Type: Open V-frame with no crossbar. The arms swing on a hinge, so you can spread or close them to match the tow loops of any vehicle.
- Pencil Type: A straight rigid bar, ring to ring. The simplest option for towing in a straight line.
Features
- All three hitches are in one entry in the vehicle selector. Choose the type as a configuration, or switch it later in the Parts menu (“Hitch Type”).
- The hitches are rigid, so they don’t flex or bend while towing.
- They are indestructible and can’t be deformed or broken, even by heavy loads or hard impacts.
- V-Type arms can be adjusted with the Node Grabber.
- Previews are included for every type.
Before you tow (important)
The hitches are rigid, so they hold the towed vehicle’s front wheels in place and the towed vehicle can’t steer on its own. Prepare it first:
- A-Type and V-Type: the triangle holds the towed vehicle’s front end by two points and steers it. In the towed vehicle’s configuration, disable the steering (remove the steering rack / tie rod, or remove the steering system in the Parts menu). Otherwise the front wheels will fight the hitch.
- Pencil Type: the bar attaches at a single point and doesn’t steer the towed vehicle. A second driver must sit in the towed vehicle and steer it, so keep its steering intact.
How to use
1. Prepare the towed vehicle as described above.
2. Attach to the tow vehicle: Sit in the tow vehicle, get close to the hitch’s front ring and press L. It locks onto the tow ball.
3. Attach to the disabled vehicle: Select the hitch itself, bring a rear eye near the disabled vehicle’s tow hook and press L.
4. Detach: Press L again from the same vehicle you used to attach.
5. V-Type tip: drag the arms with the Node Grabber until the eyes line up with the loops. For a vehicle with a single loop, bring the arms close together.
Notes
- Sometimes may spawn floppy.
- Spawns as a prop, no engine or drivetrain.
Installation Instructions
Put the vehicles folder into your BeamNG user folder (or install the zip as a mod).
