Giants Software are preparing an interesting add-on for Farming Simulator 25 - Highlands Fishing Expansion. This is a new map of the Scottish city. But the new terrain is not the only thing you can expect, because the DLC will add fishing, new crops and... a new breed of animals!

This is a Highland breed of cattle - unique animals living in the Scottish area. Forget the usual word - cows! , They are the real inhabitants of mountain areas that not only look beautiful but also have a unique history and features.

Breed with ancient roots

Highland cattle breed is considered one of the oldest in the world. The first mention of it go to the VI century, and the homeland of these «ragged beauties» became the Scottish Highlands and the Western Islands. In harsh climatic conditions, where rain, fog and cold winds are common, it is the Highland became a symbol of endurance and adaptability.

Features of the breed are striking at once: long thick fur, consisting of two layers - protective outer and soft back, powerful horns in males and females, as well as the famous fringe-dossan, which protects the eyes of animals from moschar and weather.

 The classic color is considered red, but the selection gave a whole palette: from black and white to silver, tiger and even golden.

«Good giants» and their way of life

Highland have long ceased to be exclusively Scottish. Today they can be found in North America, Australia and throughout Europe. They are loved for their friendly disposition, and it is not without reason that the people call them «good giants». These cows are characterized by extraordinary obedience and affectionate behavior. They take care of the calves, engage in playful fighting and even display social hierarchy.

Interesting fact: a group of such cows is called not «herd», but «pen». Historically, the term was associated with stone shelters where animals were protected from the weather.

Highland live longer than many other breeds - up to 20 years and more. Their main real-world value is meat, although the game will likely focus on dairy products.

Cute calves and growing up

The developers of Farming Simulator paid attention to the life cycle of animals. In the game, Highland calves will appear on farms and delight players with their activity and «cartoon» kindness. At six months they go into adolescence and become much more playful. Full adulthood comes by one and a half years.

And although the adult cow looks impressive, small Highland is a real feast for the eyes. It’s hard not to smile as they race across the pasture, compete against each other and try to master a new world.

Impact on gameplay

The developers have not yet revealed all details, but it is known that the Highland will be dairy cattle. So you can expect dairy products and possibly unique processing. By analogy with buffalo and goats, it can be a separate line of cheeses or other products.

The animals themselves will differ from the usual cows not only in appearance, but also in speed of growth.

Highland breed will appear with the release of the DLC Highlands Fishing Expansion, which is scheduled for release on November 4, 2025!
