Giants Engine 10 — The New Engine for Farming Simulator 25
As is known, for each version of Farming Simulator, the developers at Giants Software use their unique engine. With each new version, numerous changes and improvements are introduced. At the recent FarmCon24, the developers shared what players can expect from the new version of the game engine, Giants Engine 10, which powers FS 25!
Changes and Improvements in Giants Engine 10
The new version of the game engine brings a host of innovations and enhancements to existing features. Let’s take a look at what to expect.
Graphics Enhancements:
-
Fog: Fog will now be distributed unevenly, making it more realistic. Different fog densities will be observed in various locations, dynamically changing with the time of day and weather conditions. This feature allows for more atmospheric scenes, such as denser fog around water bodies and light fog over fields.
-
Dynamic Shadows: Shadows will be calculated with cloud coverage in mind, adding extra dynamism to the visuals. We’ve also introduced "soft shadows," where shadows become more blurred as they move away from the object, and improved "screen-space shadows" technology to reduce shadow artifacts and add detail.
-
Layered Lighting: Light cones from street lamps and car headlights will now be visible through fog, making the game more realistic and challenging driving in poor visibility conditions.
-
Rain and Effects: Rain now features more complex effects, including realistic splashes and wet effects on objects. Effects show how raindrops fall and create splashes upon hitting the ground and equipment.
-
New Virtual Texture Technology: Terrain textures now have resolutions up to 1 million pixels, allowing for more detailed surface rendering. Virtual textures speed up rendering and reduce memory usage.
Advanced Physics:
-
Movement Physics: The physics of vehicles and various objects in the game have been enhanced for more accurate interaction with the environment. New animations have been added to make object interactions more realistic.
-
Fog Processing: Fog is now calculated quasi-volumetrically with sunlight, creating "God rays" effects and light effects based on how fog is illuminated by the sun.
-
Dynamic Water Interaction: The new version includes water simulation, depicting waves and effects of interaction with vehicles.
Terrain Changes:
-
Improved Detail: The resolution for terrain height changes has been increased to 1 meter, allowing for more detailed and accurate maps. Real-time map displacement and displacement mapping for minor details have been added.
-
Terrain Deformation: A terrain deformation system has been introduced, enabling realistic depiction of vehicle tracks and surface interaction.
Other Enhancements:
-
Physical Material Calibration: Physical calibration for vehicle materials has been implemented, allowing for more accurate reproduction of their appearance and color.
-
New Coating Simulation: Coating layer simulation has been added, improving the visual perception of materials.
-
Improved Trees: Trees now feature 360-degree billboards, enhancing their appearance from a distance and allowing for more realistic shadow rendering.
These are just a few of the improvements and innovations to look forward to with the release of FS 25. Giants Engine 10 is set to impress players with new unique features and enhanced performance. We look forward to more news from the Giants...
