The Audi Ur-Quattro is a rare and revolutionary '80s classic ...The 1983 Audi Quattro (Ur-Quattro) marked the beginning of official US sales for the pioneering all-wheel-drive coupe, with roughly 664 total units imported through 1986. Featuring a 2.1L turbocharged 5-cylinder engine producing 155–160 hp, US models differed from European versions with larger impact bumpers, specialized lighting, and higher interior comfort features.

Arrival & Sales: While European sales began in 1980, the Audi Quattro formally arrived in North America for the 1983 model year, finding a limited audience due to its high price and exotic, rally-bred reputation.
USDM Specs: Unlike the 1983 Euro-spec, US models generally retained the 1982 European styling, lacking the minor cosmetic updates found abroad that year. They were equipped with large, safety-compliant impact bumpers.
Performance: The 2.1-liter turbocharged inline-5 engine was rated lower in the US than Europe, producing around 155–160 hp (instead of ~200 hp) due to emissions, yet still boasted 170 lb-ft of torque and a 5-speed manual transmission.
Exclusivity: A total of only 664 units were sold in the U.S. between 1983 and 1986, with another 99 sold in Canada, making it a rare survivor in North America.

It is important to distinguish the standard "Ur-Quattro" sold in the U.S. from the 1983 Audi Sport Quattro.
Sport Quattro: A special short-wheelbase homologation car (only ~200 made) with over 300 hp, designed strictly for Group B rallying.
USDM "Quattro": The long-wheelbase production coupe that introduced Quattro all-wheel-drive to the American market.
