The Ford Escort RS Cosworth is a sporting derivative, and the first 2500 were rally homologation specials for the fifth- generation European Ford Escort.
It was built to qualify as a Group A vehicle for the World Rally Championship, where it participated from 1993 to 1998.
It was offered as a road vehicle in extremely limited numbers from 1992 to 1996; the smaller turbo cars were not F.I.A recognized, and only the first 2500 cars manufactured before January 1st, 1993 are in reality "homologation special versions." It was easily identifiable because to its massive "whale tail" rear spoiler.
