The GMA T.50, also known as the Gordon Murray Automotive Type 50, is a sports automobile made by Gordon Murray. The T.50, designed by Gordon Murray and inspired by the McLaren F1, is powered by a new custom 3,994 cc (4.0 L) naturally aspirated V12 engine manufactured by Cosworth. The engine produces 663 PS (488 kW; 654 hp) at 11,500 rpm and a maximum torque of 467 N⋅m (344 lbf⋅ft) at 9,000 rpm.
The T.50 has a dry weight of 997 kg (2,198 lb), making it lighter than the great majority of cars in its class. The naturally aspirated V12 weighs just 178 kg (392 lb), and the chassis is 30 kg (66 lb) less than the McLaren F1. As a consequence, the T.50 has one of the greatest power-to-weight ratios in its class, at 501 kW (672 hp) per tonne, and its engine produces 122.1 kW (163.7 hp; 166 PS) per litre.
The GMA T.50 distinguishes itself with an 8.5 kW 40 cm aerodynamic fan built into the car's tail, driven by a 48 volt electrical motor. Inspired by the Brabham BT46B Formula One vehicle, it is specifically designed to increase the T.50's ground effect. The T.50's usage of highly aggressive and steep slanted rear diffusers results in significant turbulent or semi-stalled air traveling over the diffuser when the fan is turned off. The T.50 can suck air under the car at a 90-degree angle and provide a significant increase in overall downforce by providing a laminar flow of air passing over the rear diffuser, resulting in a greater level of suction in tandem with the Venturi effect created underneath the car, ahead of the steep rear diffusers. This enables the T.50 to regulate the boundary layer and turbulent vortices underneath the vehicle, resulting in increased downforce. Because of the T.50's fan-assisted aerodynamic design, any aerodynamic package on the front or rear of the vehicle, such as a splitter, wing, or aggressive aerodynamic design, is considered ineffective in providing additional downforce and thus negligible, allowing for a free form and flowing exterior design. The T.50, however, has active aero spoilers that work in tandem with the aerodynamic fan. The car's active aero and fan functioning is determined by the driver's preferred mode, which is accessible in six presets in the cockpit. When a 'high downforce' option is chosen, the fan-assisted aero design increases downforce by 30% by channeling air via aero ducts perpendicular to the airflow below the vehicle, resulting in a strong suction effect. Furthermore, while braking, the T.50 generates 100% more downforce by extending the active spoilers to a 45-degree angle of attack and using diffuser ducts. The T.50 may additionally reduce drag by using the specialist mode presets of'streamline' and 'Vmax' modes, resulting in a 12.5% decrease in total drag.
