The 1967 Shelby GT500 was a, limited-production (2,048 units) American muscle car, representing the first big-block (428ci Police Interceptor V8) Shelby Mustang and the last produced under Carroll Shelby’s direct oversight in Los Angeles. Known for its aggressive styling—including fiberglass body panels, functional scoops, and unique grill treatments—it offered 355 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque. The 1967 model highlighted a shift toward more refined, streetable performance compared to earlier, higher-strung Shelby models.

----------------------------------------Key Historical Aspects of the 1967 GT500-----------------------------------------------------------------

Production & Development: Only 2,048 units were produced for 1967. Production faced challenges, leading Ford to take control of engineering and purchasing in October 1966 and moving production to A.O. Smith for better fiberglass fitting.
Engine & Performance: The GT500 was powered by a 428 cubic-inch Police Interceptor V8, featuring a 355 horsepower output and 420 lb-ft of torque. It was designed for a balance of power and drivability, distinguishing it from the more intense GT350.
Design & Features: It featured a distinct look with a fiberglass nose, unique tail lights, a functional hood scoop, and a rollbar. Early 1967 models had a one-piece slanted grille, which later transitioned to a two-piece design.
Legacy: The 1967 GT500 became a cultural icon, notably featured in the 2000 film Gone in 60 Seconds and the 2019 film Ford v Ferrari.
Shift in Management: In May 1967, the decision was made to terminate the California-based Shelby operation, moving remaining work to Ionia, Michigan, by August 1967.
Significant 1967 Models
"Little Red": A notable experimental coupe (prototype) that was recently recovered after being abandoned for decades.
Prototypes: Two main prototypes, a Lime Gold fastback and a Red coupe, were produced early in the model year.
