The following facelift, in 1988, had a longer wheelbase option of 3,099 mm (122 in) rather than 2,616 mm (103 in) for the standard wheelbase. Its one- piece cargo box walls avoided rust- prone seams observed in previous versions. The V6 Xtracab SR5 won the Truck of the Year title from Motor Trend magazine that year. The Xtra Cabs now had more space behind the front seats than the previous generation, allowing optional jump seats for rear passengers, which was more in line with rivals at the time.
