Guide to Silage in Farming Simulator 25
Looking for ways to make a profit in FS25? Don't forget about silage, which can be a great source of income. It’s also used for feeding animals, making it even more valuable.
But the question arises — how do you produce it? In this guide, we’ll look at all the main ways to produce silage, including rolling grass into bales and using silage pits.
Grass harvesting and silage bales
The first and easiest method of making silage is grass baling. To do this you will need a field of grass. Grass grows almost everywhere - for example, in pastures or fields. Or you can plant it yourself. You will need a drill for this crop, a tractor and the seeds themselves. To know when it's time to harvest, check the plant growth calendar.
When the grass has grown, you can move on to the mowing process. This will require a mower.
It can be found in the grass section of the store, and it's best to use the front and rear mowers at the same time. Most tractors have a hitch front and rear - so this won't be a problem. To make the job easier, you can hire an AI assistant and assign the mowing job to him.
When the grass is already on the field, the next step is to rake it into neat rows using a windrower. This step will simplify the baling process and you won't have to go over the field repeatedly with the baler.
Once the grass has been raked, you can move on to baling. Here you have several options. The first is to use a standard baler to create round or square bales and then wrap them with a wrapper. It is important to keep in mind that wrappers support different bale sizes, so you need to set the correct press parameters before you start working.
There are also combo machines that press and wrap bales at the same time. These machines save a lot of time as you don't have to perform two separate processes. Finally, there is the stationary baler, which allows you to process harvested grass right on site using a forage wagon.
Making silage in a silo

If you want to produce silage in large volumes, it is best to use bunkers. This method is suitable for both grass and chaff. To start, you will need small equipment: mowers, rakes and a forage wagon to collect the grass.
When the grass is collected, it should be unloaded into the hopper. Spread the grass evenly throughout the hopper to make further tamping easier. Tamping is an important process that turns the grass into silage. Any tractor can be used for this, simply driving over the grass repeatedly until the degree of tamping reaches 100%.
It is advisable to use a leveler and silage tamping equipment to improve tamping performance. It can be found in the silage equipment category in the store.
The bunker can then be covered (blanket) so that the fermentation process can begin. Fermentation takes approximately one day of in-game time.
After making silage, the silage pit should be opened and the entire crop should be loaded into trailers for further sale or use.
For easy silage harvesting use belt conveyors, they automate the process and have the function of automatic loading of the material into the trailer.
Chaff: the best way for large volumes.
Chaff is another way of making silage that produces much larger volumes than grass. To make chaff you need a forage harvester and a suitable crop such as maize, wheat, barley or sunflower.
Corn is considered the most productive crop for this method because it produces the maximum amount of chaff. To begin the process, connect the forage harvester to the combine and prepare a trailer in which to load the chaff. During harvest, the combine will process the crop into chaff and automatically load it into the trailer.
When the trailer is full, the chaff should be unloaded into the hopper and spread evenly, as in the case of grass. Next comes the tamping and fermentation process, after which you will get silage.
Silage production in Farming Simulator can be done in a variety of ways, from simply creating bales to the large-scale use of chaff bins. If you want to work with grass quickly and efficiently, baling with an automatic wrapper will be the best choice. For larger operations, chaff bunkers and crop chaff harvesters are recommended. Regardless of the method, silage remains one of the most profitable products in the game, generating a stable and high income.
