Custom Bases in the Upcoming Nordic Horizons DLC for ETS2 .
Studio SCS Software is once again fueling interest in the upcoming DLC "Nordic Horizons", which promises a step forward in level of realism thanks to custom databases created by hand. Let’s see what we can expect in this add-on.
What are case bases

If you are familiar with American Truck Simulator, then surely you already know that custom bases are not just "unloading points". They are created from scratch, not taken out of ready-made apfabs. These are stand-alone objects inspired by real industrial sites.
Such bases have visual differences and unique structure. All access routes, unloading zones, layout of the territory is created manually.
In Nordic Horizons such objects will appear for the first time in the countries of Northern Europe - Sweden, Finland and Norway.
Northern atmosphere

SCS Software has paid special attention to ensure that each database reflects the character and spirit of Scandinavia. From peaceful farms with golden fields and modest sheds to harsh logging areas where the air smells of fresh wood.
At first you will find the underground quarry in Kirun - the first similar location in ETS2. It is located deep under the cliffs of northern Sweden.
How new locations are born

Work on custom bases begins long before building a map. The SCS team of researchers and designers first determines which industries best represent Northern Europe.
Then the real enterprises are studied, how they are organized, what they produce, what goods they transport. On the basis of this, a detailed plan for the future base is created.
Developer Opinion
Anis, one of the map designers, shared:
"We tried to convey the very atmosphere of Scandinavian farms - calmness, self-sufficiency, simplicity. But it was important for us to keep the realism and precision of the details."
Chief designer of the depot Edrush adds:
"After working on the case studies for Greece, we were able to expand our team and apply our expertise to Northern Horizons. My task was to create an underground quarry and help colleagues refine their unique locations. Wanted each base to have its own character - especially underground."
Developers have already hinted that this is only a small part of the content that awaits players. If you want to be the first to hit the snow-covered roads of Sweden and test your mettle underground, add Nordic Horizons to your wish list on Steam and follow updates on SCS Software’s social networks.
