How to install a mod build on Minecraft
Builds of mods in Minecraft - a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in a completely new gaming reality, where the standard world of the game is transformed with the help of dozens of modifications, textures, shaders and scripts. However, not everyone knows how to properly install such a build to avoid errors, crashes and conflicts. In this article you will learn how to step by step to install a collection of mods on Minecraft, do it safely and with a guarantee of stable operation.
Preparation: installing Minecraft and bootloader
Before you start installing the assembly, you need to make sure that you have installed Minecraft of the right version. You will also need a mod loader, most often it is Minecraft Forge or Fabric, depending on the requirements of the build. Installation of the base version of Minecraft and loader should be successful - check if the game starts without mods to make sure it works correctly.
Downloading and unpacking the build
The mod build is most often presented as an archive with the extension .zip, .rar or .7z. If you downloaded an archive with .zip extension, it can be unpacked using standard operating system tools. In the case of .rar or .7z, you will need additional software - a free archiver 7-Zip is suitable, which after installation will add a convenient item in the context menu for unpacking files.
Before installing a new build, it is recommended to clear the contents of the .minecraft/mods and .minecraft/config folders. This will help to avoid possible conflicts with already installed mods or old settings. It is desirable to make a backup copy of these folders before uninstalling.
How to distinguish the type of build: mod-pack or client
There are two main types of builds: regular mod-packs and full clients. The difference between them is important to understand, as the installation method depends on it.
If the archive contains folders mods, config, resourcepacks, then it is a typical assembly of mods. In this case, it is enough to install Forge of the desired version, and then transfer the contents of these folders to the directory .minecraft, combining them with the existing ones. It is very important to use the version of Forge, recommended by the author of the build, or the latest stable, if the specific version is not specified.
If the archive contains folders like libraries, assets, versions, shaderpacks, scripts and others, then it is a full-fledged Minecraft client, built and customized by the author. In this case, you will need to delete or move everything from .minecraft, except for the saves folder, which may contain your worlds. After that you just need to copy the files from the downloaded archive to .minecraft. If the client has a versions folder, the new version of the game can appear in the launcher automatically. If not - you will need to manually install the necessary loader (Forge, Fabric) and select it in the launcher.
Installing a build via .exe file
Some authors create build installers as .exe files. Such builds are installed automatically like regular programs: just run the file and select the installation directory. After that in the specified folder will appear all the necessary structure: mods, configs, textures and other components.
Further actions will depend on the contents - as with the installation of the client version or mod-pack.
What to do if the build does not start
If after installation you click "Play", but nothing happens, probably the problem is incompatibility of the build with your launcher or the wrong version of the bootloader. It is recommended to install the same version of Forge, which is specified in the instructions of the build, manually through the official installer.
If the build starts, but there is a crash - probably a configuration error. Often the cause is the presence of old mods and configurations that have not been removed. Make sure that the appropriate version of Forge or other loader is installed, and that it is compatible with mods.
Lack of RAM is another common cause of crashes. Many builds require between 2GB and 6GB of RAM. Check the launcher settings and increase the amount of memory allocated, if possible. Also be careful about the presence of Optifine in the build: if it is already built in, do not reinstall it.
Possible problems when playing
If the game starts but slows down or crashes when generating the world, it may indicate that resources are overloaded. Perhaps your PC can not cope with the number of mods, or one of them has errors. In this case, it helps to gradually disable mods to identify the problematic element.
Sometimes the build itself works stably, but the performance leaves much to be desired. This indicates the need to upgrade the components of your computer, or reduce the graphics settings.
