Changelog

latest Version 0.6 · Steer BeamNG · BeamNG.drive 0.38.x 3 months ago

Steer BeamNG is an hobby utility mod that lets you use an Android phone as a virtual steering wheel controller for BeamNG.drive, without requiring physical steering hardware.

The system uses a Windows helper application built on the vJoy library to create a virtual steering wheel device detected by windows and  is compatible with all games. The Android app acts as a real-time controller, sending steering, pedal, gearbox, and camera inputs over UDP (port 5000).

The controller UI is designed as a two-finger setup, allowing players to drive without constantly looking at the screen.

Key Features

  • Haptic Feedback in combination with game Force Feedback(FFB) and mobile Vibration motor
  • Realistic steering wheel with customized steering angle options

  • One-thumb pedal system (accelerator, brake, handbrake)

  • Manual, sequential & automatic gearboxes with multiple H-shifter options

  • Custom layouts with backup and sharing support
  • Camera joystick and quick controls

  • Automatic device discovery and reconnect

  • Accelerometer steering (Angle supported up to 1080 degree)
  • Works like a standard steering wheel after binding in Game keybind settings

Notes

  • Hobby project

  • Just install windows + android app and experince realistic drives
  • Requires vJoy (installed automatically by the helper app)

  • Controls must be bound manually inside Game

Here’s a clean, polished version:

Steer BeamNG is an experimental utility mod that lets you use an Android phone as a virtual steering wheel for any car game/simulator that supports steering hardware—no physical wheel required.

It works through a Windows helper app built on the vJoy library, which creates a virtual steering device detected by BeamNG. The Android app then sends real-time steering, pedal, gearbox, and camera inputs over UDP (port 5000).

The controller is designed to be two-finger friendly, making it easy to drive without constantly looking at the screen.

Key Features

  • Realistic steering wheel with multiple angle options

  • One-thumb pedal system (accelerator, brake, handbrake)

  • Manual and automatic gearbox modes

  • Camera joystick + quick camera controls

  • Real-time network ping indicator

  • Automatic device discovery and reconnection

  • Functions like a standard steering wheel once bound in BeamNG

Notes

  • Experimental hobby project

  • Requires vJoy (installed automatically by the helper app)

  • Controls must be manually bound in BeamNG

  • Not affiliated with BeamNG or vJoy
