This thread serves as the central hub for various traffic pack projects and the accompanying traffic tool, developed over several years. These are groups of dedicated traffic vehicles, optimized extensively to allow significantly more vehicles to run on average PCs compared to standard vehicles.
Please read all information before reporting issues. Common fixes are listed below.
Traffic Tool
This is the core component of the mod, enabling the spawning of dedicated vehicle groups assembled for all traffic packs. It provides greater control over spawning than standard methods, including fine control over license plates and other details.
-
Default Key: The tool opens with the left square bracket ( [ ) key. If this does not work, check the keybind assignment for "Toggle Agent Traffic Tool" under General Debug in the controls menu.

Tool Functionality:
-
Pooled Vehicle System: Extra vehicles are held in memory but not actively driving. They are periodically swapped with active traffic, increasing visual variety without exceeding the set active vehicle count.
-
Parked Vehicle Functionality: Supports on-the-fly part switching for parked cars, eliminating the need for duplicate configurations.
-
Group Selection: Choose specific vehicle groups based on region or country (e.g., EU, JP). More specific groups are planned for future updates.
-
License Plate Control:
-
Choose specific plate designs for traffic.
-
Select custom license plate models, supporting several modded shapes (Italian small front plates, British rear yellow plates, Mercosur plates, Cypriot plates, Japanese class-correct plates). A download prompt appears if a required mod is missing.
-
Option to randomize front plate usage for American traffic, simulating states where front plates are not required.
-
-
Quick Start: Option to spawn vehicles already active and moving.
-
Custom Spawning Logic: Randomizes which vehicles appear to allow for rarer vehicles and fewer duplicates.
Vehicle Groups
The mod is split into packs based on region. The EU and JP packs are included in the main download. Future packs are planned.
European Traffic Group
This initial release focuses on 43 cars commonly found across Europe, with an initial emphasis on vehicles popular in Italy. The pack includes a mix of content, from late 2000s/early 2010s hatchbacks to newer, scratch-built models.

Important Notes – Issues & Troubleshooting
-
Keybind Issues: The [ key may not work due to different keyboard layouts or conflicting mods. Check the keybind in the controls menu under General Debug for "Toggle Agent Traffic Tool".
-
Game Version: The mod requires a legitimate, up-to-date version of the game. It will not function on older or pirated versions.
Consistent Lua Errors/Fatal Exceptions:
-
angelo234's Advanced Driver Assistance Systems mod is known to cause errors. Uninstall this mod and wait for an update.
-
BeamMP and the DFA pack often cause Lua errors after game updates. Remove them and clear the cache to retest.
Random Lua Errors/Fatal Exceptions:
-
Users with 12th to 14th generation Intel CPUs may experience random, nonsensical Lua errors. This can be related to known stability issues with these processors. Research the situation, check for warranties, and look for BIOS updates to mitigate the problem.
All Vehicles are White:
-
If all vehicles appear white after downloading the mod, ensure the Vehicle Parts Painting mod by KRtekTM is not installed, as it conflicts with traffic paint colors.
-
If the mod was downloaded before the 0.37 game update, redownload the latest version.
Model or Texture Issues:
-
Clear the game cache.
-
Ensure no local saved files exist in the userfolder.
-
Verify that no multiple copies of the mod are installed.
Technical Details
Optimization
All vehicles in the mod have undergone rigorous optimization to ensure the best possible performance on weaker PCs. Optimizations include basic traffic JBeams, generic materials where possible, efficient use of PBR textures, and smart glowmaps. The goal was to balance visual quality with performance, resulting in vehicles that run as well or better than the official simplified vehicles.
For Modders: Adding Your Own Vehicle Groups
-
Vehicle groups must be edited manually. The in-game editor will not work correctly.
-
License Plate JBeam Naming: To allow the switching Lua to function, vehicles must use standardized naming. The basic format places the plate type/shape immediately after the F or R (e.g., vehiclename_licenceplate_F_US, vehiclename_licenceplate_F_EU). For full functionality, it is recommended to copy and adapt the existing vehiclename_licenseplates_extra JBeams from the EU pack cars.
-
Japanese Plate Types: Vehicles in a group tagged agent_region_jp can include a japanType field in their config info.json to specify the correct plate type ("kei", "commercial", "olympic", "temporary", etc.).
-
Population Fields: The population and populationParked fields in a group file can override a vehicle's default popularity values for that specific group.
-
Group Tags: The tags list at the bottom of group files uses specific strings (e.g., "agent_region_eu", "agent_region_jp") to tell the tool information about the group. Other tags include "agent_platenaming_basic", "agent_supports_tires", and "agent_supports_large".
