Random Events 2.0.0.0
Changelog
- The world stops being a stream of one-shot events and starts to feel alive: incidents evolve over time, emergency services drive in, the pace ebbs and flows, and your good deeds earn a rank.
- Total events increased from 59 to 75.
- New systems:
- Living Incidents - a crash can now grow into a whole incident on one spot over about a minute.
- Dispatch - emergency vehicles (police, fire, tow) now drive in from up the road and park on the shoulder.
- The Director - a pacing layer that shapes the world into waves of action and calm.
- Reputation - Good deeds and Events joined now earn XP and a cosmetic rank ladder.
- New events (16):
- Living crash
- Demolition derby
- Desert duel
- Prisoner transfer
- Felony stop
- Hit and run
- Timber spill
- Quarry works
- Fuel depot
- Wide load
- Bus stop
- School bus stop
- Moving day
- Overland meet
- RV trouble
- World event
- Improved:
- Per-event descriptions - hover "?" for one-line explanation.
- NEW badge - events added this version are flagged in the app.
This update adds a new visual effects layer that dresses two dozen existing scenes, three new events, and a clearer breakdown shield. 56 events become 59.
New events:
-
Make way - an emergency vehicle comes up fast behind you with its lights on. Pull over and let it pass and that counts as a good deed. Ignore it and it just carries on up the road on its call.
-
Donut pit invite - a drifter is holding a parking lot open and waves you in. Lay down two full circles of your own and you have joined the pit, and the host cheers you on with the hazards.
-
Vehicle fire - a car burns on the shoulder on the game's own fire physics. Stop nearby to check on the driver for a good deed. A fire crew is dispatched and rolls in, and the fire is put out after a few minutes either way.
New effects layer
-
Wreck steam - crashes, accident scenes, pileups and overturned vehicles now vent a steam plume from the engine bay for a couple of minutes after they land, so a wreck reads as a wreck from a distance instead of just a parked car.
-
Night road flares - after dark, breakdowns, stalls, flat tires, crashes, pileups and the approach to roadworks are lit by flickering amber road flares at the warning cones. Daytime scenes are unchanged, since the flares would be invisible in daylight.
-
Responder light wash - at night, police and accident scenes throw a red and blue glow across the road that flips back and forth like a real lightbar, on top of the cars' own lights.
-
Effects on/off switch - a new Effects toggle in the mod settings turns the whole visual layer above on or off. The events keep playing either way. A burning car still burns, only the added dressing is removed.
Improved:
- Breakdown shield is clearer. Two cones now bracket the exact stretch of road you need to hold, so park between them. A message confirms the moment you find the right spot and how long to stay, and at night a flare marks the middle of the zone. No more guessing where to stand.
New participation events:
- Hitchhiker: a stranded driver on a rural shoulder waves you down. Stop beside them for a few seconds and you have given them a lift - they thank you and drive off.
- Breakdown shield: a car dies half in the lane. Park a short way behind it and hold there while traffic bears down; once the driver is safe behind you, they get the car restarted and pull away.
- Escort request: an official-looking sedan flags you down. Stop beside it and it falls in behind you - lead it all the way to its destination without losing it.
- Shake the tail: a drifter locks onto your bumper as a game. Build a real gap and hold it to shake them off; park and wait and they get bored and leave.
- Radar row: a warned speed-check gauntlet - two radar units parked along the road. Pass both under the limit for a clean run; blow past one and it lights up and chases you.
- Work-zone respect: roadworks now notice how you drive through them. Crawl through the cones cleanly and it counts; blast through and you can come back and do it right.
New participation tracking:
- Two persistent counters: "Good deeds" (helpful actions) and "Events joined" (every event you actively took part in). Both survive game restarts and are shown in the compact panel and the settings view.
- Existing events count too: chasing down the race challenge, riding with the night cruise, getting pursued by police, being paced by the highway patrol and pushing the stalled car in roadside assist all feed the counters at the moment you actually take part.
- Secondary pileup — a cause-and-effect scene: a blockage backs traffic up, then a rear-end pileup forms behind it a moment later.
- Lost load — a cargo spill: barrels strewn across a lane with a hazards-on culprit van just past them, leaving a gap to thread through.
- Night cruise — a slow parade of sport, drift and exotic cars rolling with hazards flashing, that you can pull in and ride along with.
- Stolen-vehicle flee — an ambient police pursuit you witness as a bystander: a fugitive car chased by cruisers, ending in an arrest when it's cornered.
- Highway-patrol pacing — a cruiser tails you with no lights. Speed or drive recklessly and it lights up to pull you over; behave, and it eases off and peels away.
- Tow recovery — a reliable staged scene: a flatbed rollback tow truck parked up front with the broken-down car lined up behind it, hazards on.
- Even more optimization work - many events now run far more stably/better, with fewer lags. Don't forget to press the model preload button!
- A High / Med / Low label has been added next to each event, indicating how demanding the event is on your computer. High ones cause more lag when spawning than the rest.
- Added the ability to mass-disable heavy, medium, and light events
- Fixed various bugs
- Extensive optimization work across the entire mod for improved performance.
- Vehicle Reuse Pool: Reuses despawned vehicles to eliminate loading hitches.
- Prop Reuse Pool: Applies recycling to road props like cones and barriers to prevent stutters.
- One-Click Pre-Warm: "Warm Up Now" button to preload all models and eliminate initial loading spikes.
- Scene Hibernation: Static distant scenes are hidden and not simulated beyond 400 meters.
- Spawn Rate Cap: Limits automatic events to one spawn every N seconds.
- Lower Idle Overhead: Reduced memory allocations to minimize garbage collection stutters.
- Added master and per-category warm-up buttons, Vehicle Reuse Pool toggle, Distance Hibernation toggle, and Spawn Interval settings.
Performance (spawn lag)
- One new scene per tick - previously, several events could spawn in the same frame, which was the main source of freezes; now the roulette starts no more than one event per 4-second tick. Manual spawning is unaffected.
- Lightweight cars for cosmetic roles - background/parked/wrecked/convoy/broken-down cars across 10 events now come from a small lightweight pool: fewer physics nodes per spawn.
- Smaller crowds - Cars & Coffee and the abandoned parking lot now spawn a couple fewer cars.
Fixed (convoy spawning)
- Convoys no longer spawn crooked, overlap the road, or face the wrong way — motorcade, VIP escort, road crew, procession, and convoy scenes now form one clean straight line along a shared direction; the lead vehicle faces forward and immediately drives straight ahead.
Fixed:
- No more driving against one-way traffic - route generation now respects the one-way direction of roads: convoy, motorcade, VIP, road crew, procession, ghost jam, overtakes; slow vehicle, tow scene, roadside assist, and wrong-way also pick a legal heading.
- Racers no longer start in the oncoming lane - drag race and street race used to place start slots symmetrically across the centerline; now both are tucked to the legal right side.
- Cones and emergency services are now on the correct side of the scene - cones for stalled/crash/accident scenes no longer sit in an active lane or behind the crash, but on the shoulder on the approach side; emergency vehicles are also shifted to the approach side.
- The checkpoint now reads like a real blockade - barriers are rotated across the road as a solid line, rather than posts with gaps; two patrol cars park on the closed side and no longer create a traffic jam in the opening.
- Cars in parking lots are placed more sensibly - on community maps, Cars & Coffee cars no longer all face the same direction and now point toward the center of the lot; wrecked cars in the abandoned parking lot deviate slightly from the parking spot direction instead of rotating completely, and they no longer clip into neighbors.
- Long trucks now have enough room - the overtaking vehicle in truck-overtake spawns farther back so it does not clip the trailer’s tail; the donut car in street takeover now faces along the road.
Added ( situational awareness):
- Spawn notifications - a corner toast appears when an event spawns nearby, such as “Police Chase nearby”, with a toggle and distance setting.
- Recent event log - an app shows the last dozen events and how long ago each one appeared.
Added (New events; 44 active in this release)
- Street takeover - a crowd surrounds a wide intersection while a car does donuts in the center; then “police incoming” triggers and the crowd scatters into traffic. Biased toward nighttime.
- Procession - a slow funeral/parade-style convoy with a lit lead vehicle, while the rest crawl in formation. Daytime.
- Rest stop - a food van plus a short row of cars on a wide shoulder, all switched off: a roadside stop. Highway/countryside.
- Accident scene - a multi-car wreck with an ambulance and a police cruiser on scene, lights running, and warning cones.
- Wrong-way driver - a car coming head-on down your lane. It passes by, continues on its way, and never chases you.
- Overturned semi - a tractor rolled onto its side with its box trailer jackknifed across the road.
- Road crew convoy - a slow line of works vehicles, including a pickup, dump trucks, and a roller, crawling along with hazards on.
Major fixes
- Police lights and sirens now actually work. Every police/emergency vehicle was flashing amber hazards instead of using its lightbar. Pursuits, speed traps, checkpoints, traffic stops, motorcades, VIP escorts, accident responders, and ambulances now use proper lights, with sirens on active chases.
- Drifters and burnouts no longer "teleport." A donut car that gets pushed off its spot used to snap back to its starting point like a glitchy respawn. Now it brakes, settles, and keeps doing donuts wherever it ends up.
- Burnouts actually spin the wheels now. Manual muscle cars were stuck in neutral; they now engage drive and throw smoke.
- Convoys hold formation. Road crews, motorcades, and VIP escorts no longer U-turn into oncoming traffic or ram each other. The lead vehicle drives while the rest follow, without piling up on short roads or teleporting mid-drive.
- Emergency and racing vehicles no longer park dead in the lane after finishing their route.
- Vehicles now spawn in the right place: on your side of the road, in their lane, facing the correct way, and scaled to the real road width.
- Supercar meet actually appears now. Its parking-lot filter was far too strict.
- Phantom traffic jam now creates a real stop-and-go wave instead of scattering.
- Many placement and overlap issues were fixed. Wrecks no longer explode on spawn, parking-lot rings stay inside the lot, and road blockages restore drivability properly.
Improvements
- Full behaviour audit: all 41 events were reviewed and verified against the game's own AI/electrics code.
- Width-aware spawn placement across all road events.
- Smarter AI: auto-recovery from crashes, better lane discipline, and proper convoy following.
41 map-agnostic events that work on any map. Includes an in-game app with Alt+G, profiles, categories, per-event toggles and chance settings, plus persistent settings.
Added new events:
- Traffic stop - a patrol car has pulled a vehicle over on the roadside, with both vehicles' hazard lights on. (Police)
- VIP escort - a convoy: police in front, an expensive VIP sedan in the middle, and police behind, driving in formation with flashing lights. (Police)
- Overturned truck - an overturned truck lying on its side, partially blocking the road, usually outside the city. (Accidents)
- Overturned car - an overturned passenger car. (Accidents)
- Flat tire - a car with a flat tire and hazard lights on, with a warning cone behind it. (Accidents)
- Truck overtake - a slow truck, with another truck behind it moving out to overtake. (Traffic)
- Car overtake - a car overtakes, returns to its lane, and slows down. (Traffic)
- Burnout meet - several muscle cars endlessly doing burnouts in place. (Racing)
- Supercar meet - the most expensive cars gathered around a parking lot. (Parking lots)
Fixed lots of bugs + lots of improvements. In the next update I'll improve previous events, fix more bugs and add new events. Waiting for your feedback. Thanks!
Major update: from 20 to 28 events, a full UI with profiles and categories, settings persistence, major spawn optimization, and lots of fixes based on testing.
New Features:
- Profiles / presets - ready-made sets: Everything, Police RP, Racing, Chill cruise, Chaos, plus the ability to save your own. Selection is shown as a clickable list with a checkmark - clicking applies the profile instantly.
- Event categories in the interface - events are grouped (Racing, Police, Crashes, Traffic, Parking, Ambient, Player Interaction), with collapsing and a text filter.
- Alt+G hotkey - show/hide the app panel (can be reassigned in controls).
- Settings are saved between sessions - spawn radii, limits, and the state of each event survive a restart.
- Limit for simultaneous events and minimum event lifetime, so events do not disappear right in front of you.
- More vehicle variants + automatic filtering based on vehicles actually installed in the game.
New Events (8):
- Police pursuit - reckless driving makes the police chase the player.
- Roadside assist - push a stalled car, and the driver will start it and drive away (counts as a “good deed”).
- Tow scene - a tow truck pulls a car on a “tow line”.
- Road rage - an aggressor cuts off and rams another car.
- Speed trap - a patrol car on the roadside starts a chase if you fly past at high speed.
- Food truck stop - a food truck with cars gathered around it in a parking lot.
- Weather shift - fog/cloudiness for a few minutes.
- Night - forced nighttime for a few minutes.
AI and Behavior Improvements:
- The convoy now actually drives in formation (follow-chain behavior) instead of scattering at intersections.
- Drifters stay within the area and no longer fly across the map.
- Route-based events (races, ambulance, motorcade, patrol) no longer stop after one lap - the route is recalculated on the fly.
- Cars spawn in the direction of traffic and in their own lane - no more spawning sideways across the road or doing U-turns.
Performance:
- Spawning is spread across frames (spawn queue) - large scenes no longer cause freezes.
- Scenes with lots of cars use lighter models - less load when they appear.
Fixes:
- Installation has been simplified: the zip is packaged correctly (contents in the root) - the mod installs as usual, without manually copying files.
Friends, mod is still in EARLY EARLY alpha with lots of issues/bugs. All your feedback will help me to improve Random Events, fix bugs and add new features. Thank you!
