I can understand the comment about the winch unit being more practical, but the grapple skidder makes the job of skidding a one person operation. using a winch type means having to have someone to hook up choker cables onto the winch line. IRL the person has seconds to hook up the choker and get out of the way before the skidder operator starts drawing the line in. in the old days, there were guys that either lost a leg or had a severe limb breakage because of this. IRL, time is money and so is hiring one less person to get the job done. logging now is more people friendly than it used to be.
