Celebrating 10 Years of Farming Simulator
A little over 10 years ago, the now incredibly popular game Farming Simulator was born. The first game of the series was launched on April 14, 2008, and it became a success almost immediately after its launch.
This led to it quickly turning into a major milestone for the then small and young GIANTS software, the developer of Farming Simulator, which helped it turn into one of the most popular farming game developers.
The State of the Company Back in 2008
GIANTS software was so small when it launched Farming Simulator that only 4 people worked on developing the game, with two of them being Christian Ammann and Stefan Geiger, the CEO and CTO of the company, respectively.
However, the company has totally evolved since then, thanks to the huge success of the game. Talking about the success, Faming Simulator now boasts a user base of a massive 15 million users, and is available in as many as 18 different languages.
An Overview of Faming Simulator
As the name so clearly suggests, Farming Simulator is a farming game developed by GIANTS software. It offers users a very realistic farming environment, that allows them to create and manage farming assets, grow crops and do other farming activities.
Farming Simulator in 2008
While the game has come a long way since it was launched back in 2008, it’s not to be forgotten that it was the first version’s success that allowed it to become what you see it as today. However, the first version of the game – the Farming Simulator 2008 – was incredibly simple.
It just had two tractors and two combines, with some other basic farming tools. Furthermore, due to the extremely limited resources available to the developers at that time, the gameplay, features and graphics were very basic as well.
You would be surprised to know that the vehicles in Farming Simulator 2008 had no driver. Similarly, the game was far from as moddable as some of its recent versions, although it did leave enough room for experimentation.
The graphics were on the poorer side as well, with the system requirements being as basic as a RAM of just 512 MB, among others.
Farming Simulator 2018 and Its Growing Popularity
If you have been playing the Farming Simulator 2018 or any of the recent versions of the game, you don’t need to be told how much it has evolved since its launch in 2008. It has arguably become the most advanced faming games available out there, which is one of the biggest reasons for its soaring popularity.
The locations being based around American and European environments, which are very detailed, was another factor the game managed to get so popular so quickly.
One of the most revolutionary features however, was the multiplayer mode, which allowed as many as 16 players to play together. The developers at GIANT software also made it surprisingly easy for the users to come up with their own mods, which led to a huge variety of mods being introduced.
Of course, this attracted more and more users, as these two features combined took the overall gameplay to a whole new level. Needless to say, the graphics and availability of vehicles, tools and many more farming objects in the game improved and increased by leads and bounds, too, over the years.
The Future of Farming Simulator
The future of Farming Simulator is anything but uncertain. While there have been many new farming games hitting the market following the success of the Farming Simulator, it still seems to dominate the farming games universe. This is something that’s unlikely to change over the next few years at least.
However, Farming Simulator may only get better from this point in terms of the overall gameplay. This is because of what the developers have said in their video that they have released on the occasion of 10 years of success of the Farming Simulator.
They told the community that they won’t stop here, and are committed to keep making more improvements to the game and take crucial feedback from the users to keep taking the Farming Simulator to the next level from time to time.
