More Details About New Crops in Farming Simulator 22!
Farming Simulator 22 will feature three new crops: raisins, olives and sorghum. You learned more about FarmCon this year in our presentation. You can watch it right now if you missed it. Ken Burgess gives you an introduction to QA Lead.
Why grapes, olives, and sorghum?
There are several reasons why we decided to go with grapes, olives, and sorghum for Farming Simulator 22. The most obvious: new and exciting machine types are brought into the game and gameplay in agriculture is diversified.
Grapes and olives are also a great addition because they tie into various other gameplay mechanics. For example, our new production chains. And they are more than fitting for our brand-new map set in a Mediterranean climate. On top of that, since you place the vines manually, they are also part of our new and improved build mode.
You can see that grapes and olives not only add two new crops, but also new gameplay mechanics that affect several parts of the game. And Sorghum? It is very popular in the United States, ideal for our Elmcreek map inspired by the Midwest. Since it is a highly nutritious crop, it is increasingly important in warmer regions around the world - making it a fitting addition to the Farming Simulator's grain list.
What's special about the machines for grapes and olives?
Grapes and olives are special when you look at the machinery used: the vines collide and you have to maneuver the vines carefully. Otherwise, your new crops may be damaged. Be careful!
The machines are therefore very small and specialized in comparison to the usual field work. The new machinery have a working width about 1-1. 5 meters. You won't be able to drive with a large tractor between the vines.
You will also spend some time working carefully between the vines. Don't worry, it's gonna value it. Not only because it is a rewarding task to make your stomach feel good after the work has been done. Your online bank account will also make you happy.
How does the process of planting and harvesting work?
First of all, you are planting the vines. With our new construction mode (stay tuned!), you put wine rows on your fields. Basically, a nicely stretched vineyard is created. The growing grass must then be mixed between the vines, so that the plants grow to their full potential.
You spray plants with special fertilizer machines to improve yield. Just like you do with other crops. You need to cut the leaves after harvesting with the special harvesters so that the grapes can grow again. This is only necessary for grapes and is not necessary for olives.
Remember, the crop calendar needs to be taken into account if you have seasonal growth activated. Between March and the end of June, grapes and olives must be planted. The grapes will be ready for harvest in September until the end of October. In October, olives must be harvested. On the other hand, sorghum must be seeded from April to May and harvested from August to the end of September.
What can you do with the harvested crops?
You do not have to stop harvesting and selling crops, as you know by now. In a production plant, grapes, olives and sorghum can be processed. And you also have a number of options.
Grapes or even raisins can be processed into grape juice. They can then be delivered to other manufacturing plants, such as a cereal factory or a
supermarket. Olives can be transformed into olive oil in the oil mill. Sorghum can be processed into flour as a type of grain in the grain mill.
