Description
Sortilege is a Minecraft mod that improves the game’s magic systems. It connects enchanting, brewing and experience into one unified system instead of separate mechanics.
Features
- Core idea: Reworks vanilla magic systems into one progression system, fully configurable with optional tweaks and modules, while keeping the vanilla foundation.
- Magic Staves: A hybrid between melee and ranged combat available in wood, stone, iron, gold, diamond and netherite tiers. They fire instant particle beams that deal damage, ignore gravity, and scale in range, damage, and target count based on tier.
- Staff Enchantments: Includes Unbreaking, Potency (increases damage), Stability (increases range), Chaining (increases pierce), and Wisdom (reduces XP cost).
- Special Staff Effects: Bonk (melee magic damage), Push (knockback), Pull (pulls enemies), Blizzard (freezes targets), Brazier (burns targets), Blast (explosion on hit), and Blitz (shock effect that slows and weakens).
- Staff Mechanics: Uses cooldowns, configurable XP costs, dyeable colors, and Lapis Lazuli overcharge for a temporary charge bar that removes XP cost.
- Antidotes System: New potion type brewed from Glow Ink and potions. They instantly remove active effects, grant 5 minutes of immunity, stack up to 16, and have faster use times.
- Brewing Changes: Potions stack up to 8, drinking time reduced to 1 second, longer duration effects, and a 10-second cooldown. Brewing is now possible in cauldrons above campfires, with soul campfires refilling them.
- Enchanting Upgrades: New enchantments including Arcane (converts weapon damage to magic), Magic Protection (reduces magic-based damage), and Soulbound (prevents item loss on death).
- Enchantment Limits: Limits the number of enchantments per item (default 3). Curses add extra slots, and Limitite gems can increase capacity via smithing.
- Enchanting Catalysts: Items in the enchanting table influence odds. Amethyst highlights boosted pools, and enchanted books increase chances without being consumed.
- Knowledge System: Enchantments must be learned before use. Items can be scrapped using a Knowledge Book and Grindstone. Works via inventory or nearby chiseled bookshelves.
- Experience System Rework: Linear leveling with an experience cap. Includes a Witch Hat to increase XP gain, higher enchanting costs, and improved death location tracking.
- XP Mechanics: XP drops on death are split between the player, the location, and the killer. XP becomes collectible in combat ("XP pinatas"). Anvils no longer require XP, and recipes can be locked behind XP or advancements.
