Zelnick: GTA 6 Release Locked for May 2026, Pricing Yet to Come
Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick gave an interview to IGN in which he reiterated that the release of the highly anticipated GTA 6 will not be postponed again.
The last officially announced release date for the game was May 26, 2026. Initially, the network was informed that the release on consoles will be in the fall of 2025, but Rockstar postponed the release to May 26, 2026. According to them, the company decided to take more development time to release a better product.
He also emphasized that he understands the concerns of fans. Especially considering that similar promises were previously made for a fall launch. But the current decision, he said, is final and no additional date shifts are planned. Since the studio needed more freedom to realize the creative vision, they decided to take more time.
In addition to the topic of timing, Strauss Zelnick commented on the issue of pricing. He noted that Take-Two does not intend to automatically follow its competitors, who are actively testing flexible pricing models and looking at costs of $70 or more. The company is focused on creating products whose value will measurably exceed the players' costs.
"Our goal is to provide customers with more than they pay for. We excel at that and we're not going to back away from that principle," he said.
There are rumors online that the game's price tag will be around $100 or higher. But there has been no official statement on the matter from officials. Take-Two reserves the right to announce the price later, closer to the launch. Therefore, a lot of arguments and discussions appear around this topic. But assumptions do not always turn out to be correct. Therefore, it is worth waiting for the publisher itself to announce the final price of the product.
Earlier in the financial report, the publisher revealed that GTA 6's production budget has surpassed $1 billion. This is currently the biggest budget in the gaming industry.
