GTA 6 PC Release May Come Sooner, Says Former Dev!
While the official information about the release of Grand Theft Auto VI remains minimal, more and more discussions are caused not by plot details and gameplay, but the release date on different platforms. Particularly acute is the question: how long will we have to wait for the release on PC? One of Rockstar North's former employees, Obbe Vermeij, shared his view on the situation - and gave reason for moderate optimism.
Vermeij, who worked on the GTA series from 1995 to 2009, is confident that the days when consoles dictated all terms are slowly becoming a thing of the past. He recalled that once the main income of the studio received from console sales. Therefore, it is logical that Rockstar formed the habit of releasing games first on consoles. However, the industry is developing - and PC no longer looks like a “secondary” platform.
The developer expressed hope that Grand Theft Auto VI can change this tradition. He believes that the release of the PC-version does not have to be delayed for a year and a half or two years, as was the case with previous Rockstar games. Now, the PC audience hasn't just grown - it's become a key part of the market.
His opinion resonates with recent statements by Take-Two's CEO, Strauss Zelnick. The publisher's head noted that PC is now an important part of the company's strategy, and its role has grown markedly from what it was even a few years ago. However, despite this, there are no official announcements about the release of GTA 6 on PC yet.
As a reminder, neither GTA V nor Red Dead Redemption 2 came out on PC at the same time as the consoles. Both games got to the PC later. Therefore, fans of the platform still have doubts whether the situation will repeat again.
Nevertheless, the general vector of changes in the game industry gives grounds for cautious optimism. Developers are increasingly betting on multiplatform from day one. And although Rockstar is traditionally not in a hurry to reveal the cards, more and more factors suggest that this time the PC audience may not be in the tail.
So even if there's no official confirmation yet, the chance to see GTA 6 on PC sooner than expected seems more real today than ever before.
