On May 6, 2025, Rockstar Games presented the second official trailer of Grand Theft Auto VI. The new video greatly excited the whole community and caused a wave of discussion in the media and social networks. At the same time it became known that the release of the game is postponed until the end of May 2026. The reason for the delay developers call the need for additional refinement and optimization. Although the official comments were limited to general wording, such a practice is typical for large titles that are in the final stages of production.
GTA VI has been in development since 2014. By the time of release, its production cycle will total 12 years. This is one of the most ambitious and long-awaited game projects in the history of the game industry. Given the amount of investment - according to unconfirmed data, they exceeded 2 billion dollars - the new part is expected from a high level of technical performance and content richness.
Analyzing the presented video footage and available leaks allows us to form a preliminary idea about the scope, mechanics and conceptual features of the upcoming release.
GTA 6 Release Postponement

Rockstar officially announced the postponement of Grand Theft Auto VI to May 26, 2026. According to the creators themselves, they want to release a quality product. Therefore, the development will take more time than previously estimated.
The development of the project has been underway since and by the time of its duration will reach 12 years. Such a long development period is not typical even for AAA games. According to preliminary estimates, investments in the creation of the game amounted to 2 billion dollars. This amount is comparable to the budgets of large movie productions. But it is worth considering that the information about the investment is only an insider. From the officials of the company about the budget at the moment was not mentioned.
A New Look at America: Leonidas and Weiss City.

The events of GTA VI unfold in the fictional state of - a large and diverse territory, reflecting the spirit of modern southeastern America. Apparently, when creating the world, the developers focused on Florida with its urbanism and subtropical climate. The central city was Vice City, familiar from the previous part of GTA. Now it is a modern city with its own flavor, architecture, skyscrapers, high-speed and a lot of digital technology.
In addition to Vice City, there are other geographically and culturally distinct zones on the map. There is the archipelago of the Keys of - a picturesque and at the same time dangerous place where predators lurk under the azure waters. Also available will be the Grass Wetlands, home to alligators, and the Mount Nature Preserve, a mountainous national park with fishing and hunting opportunities.
In addition to the natural locations, the state also features socially rich areas. Players will be able to see the decadent port of where petty crime thrives, agricultural with a sugar refinery and the influence of biker groups, as well as other settlements.
Starring Lucia and Jason.

The main character in GTA 6 will be a girl named Lucia Caminos and Jason Duval. step from Rockstar quite unexpected, earlier in the we were given the opportunity to play only male characters.
Lucia and Jason are not just partners in crime. According to the story, there is a romantic connection between them. This became clear even from the first trailer of the game. frames from the first video that when creating the creators took the images of Bonnie and Clyde as a basis. The second trailer only confirmed these speculations.
Jason is a former serviceman with a criminal past. hiildhood surrounded by crooks and street authorities. Aftee he moved to the state of Leonidas in the hope of startinfe from scratch. However, past and he quickly returned to illegal methods of earning money. Jason retains the dream of a quiet and peaceful life, which he may be seeking to build with Lucia.
Lucia is an equally hardened individual. She grew up in a dysfunctional environment and knows how to stand up for herself. Since childhood, her father taught her self-defense. The experience of fighting for survival and the timent in prison shaped a tough and determined character. After her release, Lucia strives to secure a stable and comfortable life for herself at any And she does not shy away from any methods that the criminal world offers.
Secondary characters

In addition to the central plot pair, GTA VI will feature many secondary characters, each embedded in the social and criminal structure of the fictional state. Instead of background figures, there are full-fledged participants in events with motivations, functions, and influence on the plot.
One of the most notable new actors is Brian Heder, a former courier in the illicit trade, now a criminal mastermind. He will be a character with a functional role. Jason will presumably build initial missions and business relationships with him. The old man will probably act as a patron, providing shelter and resources in exchange for completing missions.
Among other figures, a certain policeman with glasses who glimpses in the investigation scenes stands out. His image refers to the iconic “anti-heroes” from previous installments, such as Officer Tenpenny. There is reason to believe that this character will play an important role in the law enforcement system. Perhaps his storyline will develop in parallel with the careers of the main characters.
Leonida's social structure also identifies other influencers: rapper Dquon Priest, bank robber Fraul Bautista, actresses and media figures Baylux and Roxy, and crime magnate Bubby Ike. The latter, judging from the description, controls a chain of strip clubs and recording studios. His image may be inspired by the image of the scandalous producer Sean “P. Diddy” Combs, around whom in recent years actively circulated accusations of numerous offenses. Such references are nothing new for Rockstar, who often draw inspiration from real-life personalities to build game analogs.
The return of familiar characters from previous games is also of interest. Among them is presumably Phil, who appeared previously in Vice City and Liberty City Stories. His cameo can be seen in the trailer: he advertises the Amunation weapons store and this may indicate his involvement in the trade or other operations related to weapons.
The scene where Lucia returns home after doing community service also reveals a possible plot branch related to her parole. It is likely that as part of the side activities, players will have the opportunity to take part in recovery programs or work “for the good of society” in forced labor.
New technologies: Behavior Simulation and a New Animation System

One of the main accents in GTA VI will be the quality of detailing the behavior of the surrounding world. Rockstar traditionally pays attention to creating a live, realistic environment. But the new part, judging by leaks and visual materials, raises the bar to a whole new level. On the background of a fresh patent from the publisher Take-Two Interactive there are speculations that the game will use an improved animation system, which is the ideological heir to the Euphoria technology, used in GTA IV.
The essence of the new development is a modular approach to animations. All character actions are assembled from separate animation blocks and form a reaction that corresponds to a particular context. The gait and behavior of the character can change depending on weather conditions, the level of damage received, the presence or absence of weapons, clothing and other variables.
In addition to the technical aspects of animation, changes have been made to NPC logic. The inhabitants of Leonida will behave as if they were alive. Passers-by may panic, try to escape, stumble, fall, beg for mercy, grab for wounds or call for help. Eyewitnesses of incidents in GTA 6 will now be able to film what is happening on the phone and contact the police.
Changes to the police. Law enforcement agencies will now conduct a full investigation, inspect crime scenes, take measurements, record evidence, evacuate victims.
A Fresh Take on Vehicle Theft and World Physics
In all Grand Theft Auto series it was always very easy to get transportation - it was enough just to go to the car, press a button, as the game character immediately threw the driver to the curb and got into the car. However, in GTA VI developers decided to abandon the simplified scheme in favor of more advanced mechanics. According to the latest insiders, to steal a car, you will need to use special tools. In the arsenal of the hero will include such tools as auto dialer, jamming tracker, lock picks and other devices that correspond to the class of the car and the level of its protection.
For each car will need to come up with their own methods of stealing. Old, worn out cars are easy to open. But with elite sports cars and armored SUVs will need to apply wit and ingenuity, because there is used alarm system and complex mechanisms of protection against theft.
The physics of the world will also be different. So far, we can only focus on insides and rumors. But if you believe this information, then in GTA VI there will be a dynamic system of road destruction. When the accident on the asphalt will appear cracks, potholes and destruction. After such incidents, at the scene will come repair crews, which actually will be engaged in repairing the roads.
It is interesting that the physics of weather conditions will please realism. Wind gusts will be able to topple objects, sway signs, knock down passersby and spread garbage on the streets. Even such details as the physics of garbage now succumb to the laws of nature and will respond to external influences.
Also in the game should appear in the mechanics associated with clothing. Things on the character will be able to get dirty, damaged or wet.
Next-generation cinematic

Rockstar company is known for its love for cinematography. Take the same Red Dead Redemption 2, which amazes with realistic graphics. And in GTA 6 they want to go to a higher level. At least, judging by the trailers, it really is.
Everything points to the fact that the project will support ray tracing technology (raytracing). This can be seen in scenes with puddles, windows and mirrored surfaces, where you can see how light “plays” with materials.
At the end of the trailer it is stated: the entire video sequence is recorded from the PlayStation 5 console. The developers themselves say that 50% of the frames from the second trailer are part of the gameplay. However, there is a slight nuance here. Under the word “gameplay footage” the developers mean video shot on the game engine. That is, it is not necessarily that someone was playing and controlling the characters at that moment.
Moving on to specific scenes, it's worth noting the appearance of a new character - an elderly man named Brian Heder. He appears in an episode where Jason is fixing the roof of a house. Brian at that moment drives up to the house in a pickup truck. They have a dialog in which the character ironically says: “Just fixing some leaks” - a phrase that is taken as an allusion to the leaks about the project last year. With this reference, the creators wanted to express self-irony and show that they hear the community and are watching ready to interact with the audience.
The trailer also shows scenes of everyday life of the characters. One of the episodes shows Jason doing barbell bench presses on the beach. This could signify the return of a physical character development system similar to GTA: San Andreas, where players could control the protagonist's weight, musculature, and overall shape. The references to Jason's attraction to women accompanying the scene indirectly confirm that appearance and physical characteristics can influence not only stats, but also social interactions within the game.
What to expect from gameplay?

The game actively expands the arsenal of available gameplay mechanics. These include large-scale chases, shootouts, aerial skirmishes, bank and underground battles.
The scene of a major national bank robbery confirms this. Such missions are known from GTA V and they become the most important plot milestones. The player will have to independently think through the plan of action and create own tactics to successfully carry out the heist.
In one of the trailer shots, Lucia takes part in a fight in a makeshift octagon. Perhaps means that the game will include new mechanics illegal It's quite possible. I mean, Lucia has a fighting background. And perhaps such scenes hint that fights will become part of the missions in the game. Also, perhaps there will be a training system so that players can pump up their character's combat characteristics. Such mechanics already been in GTA San Andreas. Probably, in the 6th it will also be implemented, but with refinements and improvements.
In one of the we see Jason playing on console. Probably, the player will again have access to a number of mini-games and arcades inside the main project, as it was already realized earlier.
As of now, the project is only announced for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S. However, given Rockstar's practice, the release on PC is likely to take place later - as it already happened with GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2.
