Fans of the Grant Theft Auto series of games are waiting for the fall, because at this time GTA 6 should be released! However, the question remains open - on which platforms it will be released? Grant Theft Auto VI at the time of release will be released on only two platforms: PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. PC gamers are waiting for déjà vu - as in the case of GTA V, the release on computers is delayed. Although the developers have not yet called the exact date, the experience of past years suggests: we will have to wait at least a year.

Why is Rockstar betting on consoles?

This decision seems unfair, especially considering the growing popularity of PC-gaming. But the developers can be understood. Profitability of their product is important for any company. Therefore, first of all, they focus on the most profitable sales market. And as the practice and financial reports of publisher Take-Two showed, that Rockstar earned the most from consoles - they account for 40% of revenue. But the most profits were brought by mobile games. Obviously, it is much more profitable to release a game on PS5 and Xbox. That's what they are likely to do. Especially since GTA 5 on consoles sold 210 million copies.

The greatest activity in GTA Online was shown by PlayStation users. PS4 has become the most popular platform for online, and Rockstar clearly expects to repeat the success with the sixth part. Especially since the total number of PS5 and Xbox Series X|S sold has already passed 94 million, of which about 70 million are PlayStation 5.

Not the least of the delayed release on PC is the problem of piracy. On consoles, the in-game economy is much better protected, which is especially important for Rockstar: the sale of Shark Cards in GTA Online remains one of the main sources of profit. But on PC, cheaters and hackers often get access to the currency for free, which undermines the game's business model. To this should be added the complexity of optimization for a wide range of “hardware”, because it requires additional months of development.

When will Grant Theft Auto VI be released on PC?

Officially, the release of GTA VI on PC is not confirmed, but the expectations of players have already formed: most analysts and fans agree that the PC version will not be released before the end of 2026. In the meantime, Rockstar will focus on maximizing sales on consoles, where its audience is the most active and solvent.

If you're looking forward to playing the new installment as soon as it's released, it's time to consider buying a console. Otherwise, be patient.
